We have all been in a place where we have faith that our Lord will provide (fill in the blank) and yet we may hear a taunting asking us on what we are basing our confidence. King Hezekiah was confident in the Lord and yet, “This is what Sennacherib king of Assyria says: ‘On what are you basing your confidence, that you remain in Jerusalem under siege?'” (2 Chron 32:10) Have you ever “heard” a voice try to undermine your faith?

The enemy has the ability to do only what God gives him permission to do. The only power he has over you is the power you give him when you allow his words and empty threats to make you afraid. When you start to fear, try reciting 2 Chronicles 32:7-8 inserting your own circumstances:

Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or discouraged because of (fill in your own blank). For there is a greater power with us than with him. With him is only the arm of flesh, but with us is the Lord our God to help us and to fight our battles.

And then do like Hezekiah and PRAY! “Hezekiah received the letter from the messengers and read it. Then he went up to the temple of the Lord and spread it out before the Lord. And Hezekiah prayed to the Lord: ‘Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, enthroned between the cherubim, you alone are God over all the kingdoms of the earth. You have made heaven and earth. Give ear, Lord, and hear; open your eyes, Lord, and see; listen to all the words Sennacherib has sent to ridicule the living God. It is true, Lord, that the Assyrian kings have laid waste all these peoples and their lands. They have thrown their gods into the fire and destroyed them, for they were not gods but only wood and stone, fashioned by human hands. Now, Lord our God, deliver us from his hand, so that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that you, Lord, are the only God.'” (Is. 37:14-20)

After Hezekiah prayed, Isaiah delivered God’s response (Is. 37:21-35), “Because you have prayed” (v21) “The zeal of the Lord Almighty will accomplish this” (v32). The Lord has power over anything and everything that has power over you.
