In my reading last night I was brought to a particular Scripture. “You are our letter [of recommendation], written in our hearts, recognized and read by everyone. You show that you are a letter from Christ, delivered by us, written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts.” (2 Cor 3:2-3 AMP)
Our lives are to become official letters of recommendations from God to those that do not know the Lord Jesus as Savior. We are to become a sweet aroma of truth, to those who do not know the gospel message to which we stand fast. “The mouth of the righteous utters wisdom, and his tongue speaks justice. The Law of his God is in his heart; His steps do not slip.” (Ps 37:30-31)
When we allow God’s Word to go beyond our ears and into our hearts, it stimulates us to do that which God is calling us to do. — A.W. Tozer
It is the indwelling Holy Spirit Who carries out His supernatural work in the lives of all believers out of the abundance of God’s grace. The indwelling Holy Spirit writes the character of the Lord Jesus Christ into the inner beings and character of all believers, who willingly submit to His leading. “But He gives a greater grace. Therefore it says, ‘God is opposed to the proud, but gives grace to the humble.’ Submit therefore to God. But resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” (James 4:6-7)
It is only in our submission to the Holy Spirit’s work within us, that we have access to the grace required to keep us humble. “Therefore I, the prisoner of the Lord, urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling with which you have been called, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, being diligent to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.” (Eph 4:1-3)
In order to walk as Paul urges us, we must submit to the deep and inner workings of the Spirit within our hearts, so that all that is unworthy in us can be cut away by His skillful scalpel. Let us submit to the hands of the master potter, trusting Him to make us into the vessel of His choosing so that we may serve Him as He sees fit.
Thank You, Lord, for Your faithfulness in the day-by-day working of Your Spirit in my life. As You have promised to finish what You began in me, I submit to You shaping me into the vessel that You would have me be so that my life will glorify You. In the precious name of Jesus I pray, amen.
