Yesterday I saw that a “comedian” that has made some very ugly comments and posted pictures about someone who held a high office in this country has lung cancer. I also saw some very ugly comments directed at her, most of which were her own words used wishing death to others. As Christ followers we are not to behave like the worldly people.

“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.” (Rom 12:1-2)

We have the living Lord and Savior within us, and we must “put on the new man who is renewed in knowledge according to the image of Him who created him” (Col 3:10). We are admonished as God’s children to “gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and rest your hope fully upon the grace that is to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ; as obedient children, not conforming yourselves to the former lusts, as in your ignorance; but as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, because it is written, ‘Be holy, for I am holy’.” (1 Pet 1:13-16)

It’s human nature to want to hurt others using their own words, but that’s not what God’s Word says. Instead we are to “put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts, and be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness” (Eph 4:22-24)

We can’t do this on our own, but we can do this because of what the Lord has done for us: “I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh” (Ez 36:26). Thank You, Jesus, for making me a new creature!
