This morning was one of “those” days. You know, where you were a bit cranky when you went to bed, and the mood seemed to carry over to the morning? Am I the only one who’s been through this? Then on my way to work, I heard the song by Micah Tyler, “New Day”. It reminded me of a favorite Scripture: “The Lord’s acts of mercy indeed do not end, for His compassions do not fail. They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness.” (Lam 3:22-23)

Workwise, I’ve had a very difficult month with long hours and I’ve been exhausted. I haven’t spent as much time in the Word as I should, and I haven’t been anywhere near as kind as I should be to my husband. I’ve been cranky, and then been cranky about him being cranky back. The words of the song hit me like a ton of bricks:

I’ve been hard on myself lately
Every morning I feel the weight
When it’s hard to just get out of bed
Tell my heart cause sometimes I forget

That Your mercies are new today
Your mercies are new today
I can rest on Your shoulders
There is grace to start over
Your mercies are new today
Your mercies are new today

Help me rise like the morning sun
Help me see that Your works not done
When I’m less than what I want to be
Lord, I need You to keep reminding me

Your mercies are new today
Your mercies are new today
I can rest on Your shoulders
There is grace to start over
Your mercies are new today

I kept thinking You were angry
But You were fighting just to hold me
And pick me up every time I fell
If Your love is here to lift me
And Your blood says You forgive me
Show me how I can forgive myself
Cause Your mercies are new today
Your mercies are new again and again

Your mercies are new today
Your mercies are new today
I can rest on Your shoulders
There is grace to start over
Your mercies are new, oh, new today
I can rest on Your shoulders
There is grace to start over
Your mercies are new today
Your mercies are new today

Thank You for this reminder, Lord! I’m so grateful that Your mercies are new each day, and I need to give the same mercy and grace that You give me! Just maybe, someone else needed to hear this today as well!
