Whatever that’s been going on recently or whatever you have to face today, be ready for trouble. Jesus begins John 16 by telling us: “These things I have spoken to you so that you may be kept from stumbling.” (v 1) What are these things? In order to navigate this world with His power, we must abide in Him (John 15:1-11); we must love one another (John 15:12-17); and He tells us to be ready because the world will hate us because of Him (John 15:18-25). And then He gives us the great news that He is sending us the Holy Spirit who seals us: “When the Helper comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, that is the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, He will testify about Me, and you will testify also, because you have been with Me from the beginning.” (John 15:26-27)

So He has already prepared us to keep our feet sure. While He gives more details than we’ll go into today, let’s skip over to His promise that keeps our feet secure: “These things I have spoken to you, so that in Me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation, but take courage; I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33) No matter what we are able to see before our eyes on this world, Jesus has already overcame this problem and it is but a footstool for His feet. As long as we are abiding in Him, keep His commandments, thereby abiding in His love (John 15:10), we can have peace because we abide with the overcomer! There’s nothing that can be thrown at you that Jesus can’t handle, as long as we are humbled to His will and His work within our lives for His glory! Amen!
