When things are being shaken all around us, it just may be the Lord doing the shaking. He may be getting us ready for what He wants to do next in our lives–through us–or He may be trying to get our attention. “And His voice shook the earth then, but now He has promised, saying, ‘Yet once more I will shake not only the earth, but also the heaven.” This expression, ‘Yet once more,’ denotes the removing of those things which can be shaken, as of created things, so that those things which cannot be shaken may remain.” (Heb 12:26-27)
What cannot be shaken, if we are followers of Christ, is our position in Christ and our eternal destination. So no matter the things that we can see with our limited vision that are shaken, our eternity that we can’t see is not shaken. So then what is our response when we lose the job, our car is broken, the air conditioner goes out when it’s 95 degrees outside with 90% humidity? The next two verses give us our proper response: “Therefore, since we receive a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us show gratitude, by which we may offer to God an acceptable service with reverence and awe; for our God is a consuming fire.” (Heb 12:28-29)
There are many shakings occurring in my life right now. After hearing the message from Tony Evans (Shaking Things Up For Revival) on my way to work this morning, I thanked God for the pain in my hip caused from being out of alignment. You heard that right — I thanked Him! It’s a reminder that I walk through this life based on His power, not mine; and that works out best when I’m aligned under His Word. “I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me and I in him, he bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing.” (John 15:5)
I’d love to hear from you for the things for which you are thankful today, even those things for which the world wouldn’t thank the Lord.
