When we truly understand that the Lord is in our corner–our greatest defender and vindicator–we will no longer seek to rescue ourselves. “What shall we say then? There is no injustice with God, is there? May it never be! For He says to Moses, ‘I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion.’ So then it does not depend on the man who wills or the man who runs, but on God who has mercy. For the Scripture says to Pharaoh, ‘For this very purpose I raised you up, to demonstrate My power in you, and that My name might be proclaimed throughout the whole earth.’ So then He has mercy on whom He desires, and He hardens whom He desires.” (Rom 9:14-18)
It’s only in drawing close to Him in such a way that we can hear Him and, as a result, follow Him that we will experience His deliverance in every area of our life. “Cease striving and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” (Ps 46:10) Be careful that you don’t read this verse to say that we aren’t to put our feet to our faith; instead we are to trust in Him fully, not leaning on our own understanding. We are to humbly acknowledge Him in His sovereignty, then He will make our paths straight (Prov 3:5-6). Then we are to walk where He leads.
His is the God of my kindness, goodness and faithfulness, Elohei Chasdi. “O my strength, I will sing praises to You; For God is my stronghold, the God (Elohim) who shows me lovingkindness (Chasdi). (Ps 59:17)
Elohei Chasdi, You are my stronghold and the God who shows me lovingkindness. I confess that I do not always look to You as my stronghold but rather attempt to solve my problems on my own. Forgive me for neglecting to make You the focal point when I am facing various trials or heartache. Forgive me for when I have turned to other means to try and find comfort instead of turning to Your faithful kindness and goodness. Thank You for Your loving grace and mercy on me, a sinner who doesn’t deserve Your gift. Thank You for not hardening my heart, even while I strayed from the pathway You put me on. I thank You for all that You have provided; without Your provision I would have nothing. Lord, I know that all that You have blessed me with is to be used for Your kingdom. Guide me in the way everlasting so that I will not miss the opportunities You put before me. In the precious name of Jesus, amen.

I needed this reminder. It is one of my struggles to keep trying to “fix” things on my own, which ends up just making things worse in the long run.
