This world is far from perfect, so we aren’t to be surprised when trials befall us (1 Pet 4:12). This morning I was reminded where my eyes are to focus. The steadfast of mind You will keep in perfect peace, because he trusts in You. ‘Trust in the LORD forever, for in God the Lord, we have an everlasting Rock.'” (Is 26:3-4)

The perfect illustration comes from Matt 8:23-27. Jesus was asleep in the boat as they made their way to the other side. The disciples had their eyes on the storm surrounding the boat, not on their Lord. The fact that Jesus was sleeping should have told them all they needed to know; He wasn’t worried as He knew they would reach the other side (Matt 8:18).

Jesus did for the disciples as He does for us all: “He said to them, ‘Why are you afraid, you men of little faith?’ Then He got up and rebuked the winds and the sea, and it became perfectly calm.” (Matt 8:26) He has the power over all of our storms. He asks us to keep our minds steadfast on Him, and He will keep us in His perfect peace.

Dear Lord, thank You that we can trust You. Thank You that no matter how loudly the storm screams or how high the waves get, You are always only one word away from calming our worst fears and speaking peace into our shaking hearts. Thank You for the reminder this morning to keep my eyes set on You, for You alone can give me Your peace. In the precious name of Jesus, amen.

I’m taking the next couple of days off, and will post again on Monday. Be blessed friends, and keep your eyes on our Lord!
