This morning I am thankful for the peace Jesus gives so that we do not need to have a troubled heart. We don’t know what circumstances we will have in our earthly life, but we do know what our eternity will be. “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God, believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.” (John 14:1-3)
Our eternity is certain if we believe that Jesus is the Son of God, and by faith we choose to follow Him. But what about our daily lives here on earth? “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.” (Prov 3:5-6)
No matter if we can understand why something may happen, we know that the Lord has His plans, and His plans always work out according to His will. So we trust Him! “‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you.'” (Jer. 29:11-12) Not only does He have His plans, but He wants us to pray to Him, to spend time in His Word and trust that whatever happens, it is by His design.
And when we trust in Him and submit ourselves to Him, we have His peace. “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” (John 14:27) And with that peace, we are able to weather any storms we encounter. There’s no reason to be afraid, for “no weapon forged against you will prevail” (Is. 54:17a). Thank you Lord!
