We have a choice, every moment of every day. We know that we are to keep our eyes on Jesus (Hebrews 12:2), but often the world vies for our attention.

This morning I read over the Scripture that tells us to let His Word dwell in us richly. “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God. And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.” (Col. 3:16-17)

In order to allow His Word dwell in us richly, we must spend time with Him in prayer and in His Word. Adam Clarke’s commentary says, “the apostle means that the Colossians should be well instructed in the doctrine of Christ; that it should be their constant study; that it should be frequently preached, explained, and enforced among them; and that all the wisdom comprised in it should be well understood. Thus the doctrine of God would dwell richly, that is, abundantly, among them.”

In order to let His Word dwell in us richly, we need His wisdom. And the great news is that the Lord is ready to give it to us. “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.” (James 1:5)

For me, what brings my attention back to Him is listening to Christian music, that I sing to myself throughout the day. What works for you?
