As you read this, stop to think about where you are. Are you at a desk, or on the couch? Wherever you are on this earthly plane, you are spiritually with Christ. In the first chapter of his letter to the church at Ephesus, Paul prays: “That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you a spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of Him. I pray that the eyes of your heart [your inner man] may be enlightened, so that you will know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, and what is the surpassing greatness of His power toward us who believe. These are in accordance with the working of the strength of His might which He brought about in Christ, when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places” (Eph. 1:18-20).

What riches does Paul want us to be enlightened to? By faith we are: blessed with every spiritual blessing, chosen to be holy and blameless, adopted into His family, redeemed by the blood of Jesus, forgiven and reconciled with the Father, who has shared His wonderful mystery with us that gives us eternal hope, we are sealed by the Holy Spirit, to show that we belong to Him, and we have the power of God’s mighty strength. And how does he want us to receive this enlightenment? “The Father of glory may give to you a spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of Him”.

God wants us to have a deep spiritual awareness of His love and to experience His love in our hearts. The source of this knowledge is God and the Holy Spirit is the channel through whom God reveals this to us deep in our minds and in our hearts. For from Him and through Him and for Him are all things. To Him be the glory forever! Amen.” (Rom. 11:36) It is a fact that truths remain hidden until God chooses to reveal them to us. This is why Paul prayed for God “to give” the Ephesian church a spirit of wisdom and revelation. One of the greatest revelations is who and where we are in Christ.

Christ is seated at the right hand of the Father in heavenly places “far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age, but also in the one to come. And He put all things in subjection under His feet, and gave Him head over all things to the church, which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all.” (Eph. 1:20-23) Christ is above all: everything, everyone, and every spirit (including “the prince of the power of the air…the spirit that is now working in the sons of disobedience”–the devil) is under His feet. He has all authority over everything.

Before we came to faith in Christ, we were dead in our sins. “For the death that He died, He died to sin once for all; but the life that He lives, He lives to God. Even so consider yourselves to be dead to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus.” (Rom. 6:10-11) Our life is now in Christ. “Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.” (1 Cor. 5:17)

Not only are we now alive in Christ with an eternal hope, but we are seated with Him in the Heavenly Places. “But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in our transgressions, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), and raised us up with Him, and seated us with Him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus” (Eph. 2:4-6).

So no matter where you are on this earthly plane, KNOW where you are in Christ. We are seated with Christ. We have been made alive together with Christ, raised up with Him, and been seated with Him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus (Eph. 2:5-6).  The enemy is under His feet (Eph. 1:21-22), so he is under our feet as well. We need to live from our position of being seated with Christ, where we are set free to love and serve and witness to the grace of God in our lives. As we have been redeemed, Satan no longer has any power of us. Let’s make certain that we are living from our position as forgiven, with the same mighty power from the Lord He used to raise Jesus from the dead and seat Him at His right hand in heavenly places.

Lord, I was dead in my sin certain to spend eternity in the lake of fire. But You are rich in mercy and and grace, and offered me Your gift of salvation in Christ Jesus. Now instead by faith, You mercifully seated me with Christ in the heavenlies. Your love and kindness toward me is a surpassing greatness that I only need to accept by faith. I praise You for Your great love, and am so thankful for the riches of Your grace and mercy, which You richly bestowed on me, even though I didn’t deserve it. Thank you for choosing me! In the precious name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
