For those who don’t know Jesus as their Lord and Savior, it would be an innate response to want to raise up and rail against the injustices we see in our world. But for those of us who know Jesus, we can rest in the knowledge that Jesus reigns supreme. “The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For in Him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through Him and for Him. He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together.” (Colossians 1:15-17)
Whatever travesties we see in the world, we can trust in Him who created everything. “‘See, it is I who created the blacksmith who fans the coals into flame and forges a weapon fit for its work. And it is I who created the destroyer to wreak havoc; no weapon forged against you will prevail, and you will refute every tongue that accuses you. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and this is their vindication from me,’ declares the Lord.” (Is. 54:16-17) As the Lord’s heirs, we already know that we are set apart and are in the Victor’s camp “for everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith.” (1 John 5:4)
If then, we have already won the battle through our faith in Jesus Christ, what are we to do? We don’t give in to the enemy! “Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that He may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you. Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings.” (1 Peter 5:6-10)
Nor do we fight as unbelievers, instead we arm ourselves with Jesus. “Finally, be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.” (Ephesians 6:10-12)
And we pray: “And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.” (Eph 6:18) And remember that the Lord to whom we pray can do anything, because He created all the world, and all that is in it, including ourselves and our enemies. “I am the Lord, the God of all mankind. Is anything too hard for me?” (Jer. 32:27)
