I try to take notice of the sunrise most mornings. The colors brushed across the sky reminds me that the Lord has given me a new day, and along with it new mercies and grace — that I completely do not deserve. It reminds me to be thankful. The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness. ‘The Lord is my portion,’ says my soul, ‘therefore I will hope in Him.’ The Lord is good to those who wait for Him, to the soul who seeks Him. It is good that one should wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord.” (Lam. 3:22-26)

The colors across the sky remind me that He knows best what to place in my path, even if I can’t see the good in it. But the Lord is faithful, and He alone knows what is and is not “good” for me. As I submit to Him and His will, I allow Him to paint the canvas of my life for His purpose and His glory. Now to Him who by the power that is working within us is able to do far beyond all that we ask or think, to Him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.” (Eph. 3:20-21)

When we truly embrace that He is able to do more than we can imagine, we take to heart that He is more than sufficient, and we can be satisfied and thankful for what He provides. “The Lord is my chosen portion and my cup; you hold my lot.” (Ps. 16:5)

Lord, today I am thankful that you make provision for me, and I thank you for withholding from me that which you don’t want me to have. For you know better than I what is good and right for me, for your ways are higher than my ways. I praise you for your never-ending grace and mercy, and your steadfast love. Great is thy faithfulness!
