Jesus made the ultimate sacrifice for our sins, so that we have righteousness through our faith in Him (Romans 3:22). When we break bread with the body of Christ (the brethren–the church), we can be grateful for His sacrifice and for making us a part of His body of believers, just as Jesus broke bread with His disciples. “While they were eating, Jesus took bread, and when He had given thanks, He broke it and gave it to His disciples, saying, ‘Take and eat; this is my body.'” (Matt. 26:26)
Thanks to God we are not alone and not without purpose. We are members of a body–His body. “Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.” (Col. 3:15) As His children, we have been given a purpose to share His love with others, and to allow His light to shine through us in order to build up the body. We are so blessed to be able to be used for His glory.
Today I am grateful for the body of Christ–the church. I am so thankful for the true friends I have in my weekly Bible study. I’m thankful for the love we share, the tears we weep together, the laughter we share and the love that binds it all together. “Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.” (Col. 3:12-14) I am thankful the Lord is using our “meeting of the brethren” for His purposes. Thank you Lord for this body of believers!
