Sometimes life can seem to be careening out of control, so much so that you feel like a fireman running from here to there, extinguishing the fires breaking out in your life or the lives of those around you. Distractions, crises, and interruptions try their best to rob you of your peace, energy, and strength.

But when you accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior, you were turned inside out. You have the ability to live from your spirit instead of your emotions. The Spirit of God within you wants to guide you and give you something that can’t come from your emotions alone–daily peace.

I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you.” (Psalm 32:8)

Relax and let the real you–your heart–lead and guide you in all truth. Instead of reacting to your circumstances, stop and respond to the voice of God. Then perhaps you’ll still put out fires, but you’ll arrive on the scene when the blaze is more manageable, with a clear sense of direction of what needs to be done to bring about the best outcome for your life and the lives of those around you.

Heavenly Father, I want to respond to life, not react to it. Help me to hear Your voice and follow Your lead. Amen.
