I’ve shared before with you that for most of my adult life I have struggled with “not being enough”, and what a deep wound for me it was. That feeling has shown up in many relationships: my marriage, my relationship with my parents, and friendships. And it has also shown up conversely as I don’t receive enough. It’s an old wound that the devil brings to mind so that I will spiral down into depression, fear, and shame. Thankfully, God opened my eyes to see that He never designed us to be “enough”, but instead to depend on His sufficiency. “By His divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. We have received all of this by coming to know Him, the one who called us to Himself by means of His marvelous glory and excellence.” (2 Peter 1:3)

I don’t have to be able to do it all. In fact, God has the amazing ability to turn even our darkest situations into personal and spiritual victories. And we are never alone. But when the Father sends the Advocate as my representative—that is, the Holy Spirit—He will teach you everything and will remind you of everything I have told you. ‘I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.'” (John 14:26-27)

Jesus gives us everlasting peace. If we are feeling anxious, afraid, or shame, we need to remember that the devil is lying to us, and we don’t have to listen to him. As heirs to the throne, we have the peace of mind and heart that belief in Jesus Christ gives us. So instead of listening to the devil’s lies, let’s remember: And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 8:38-39)
