This week gave me several opportunities for growth in Christ Jesus. Opportunities are often painful. My “take home” is that our Lord is truly the only one on whom we can depend – His is the only word that we can trust. This morning I was enjoying the beautiful weather and was taking delight in all that He created.
“Yes, my soul, find rest in God; my hope comes from Him. Truly He is my rock and my salvation; He is my fortress, I will not be shaken. My salvation and my honor depend on God; He is my mighty rock, my refuge. Trust in Him at all times, you people; pour out your hearts to Him, for God is our refuge.” (Ps. 62:5-8) Trusting God to be our rock, salvation and fortress will change our entire outlook on life. No longer must we be held captive by resentment toward others when they hurt us. When we are resting in God’s strength, nothing can shake us.
“Take delight in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord; trust in Him and He will do this: He will make your righteous reward shine like the dawn, your vindication like the noonday sun. Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for Him; do not fret when people succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes.” (Ps 37:4-7)
To delight in someone means to experience great pleasure and joy in their presence, which can only happen when we know them well. To delight in the Lord, we must know Him better. To commit ourselves to the Lord means entrusting everything to His control and guidance. We must trust in Him, believing He can care for us better than we can ourselves. We should wait for Him patiently, for the Lord to work out what is best for us.
“the Lord delights in those who fear Him, who put their hope in His unfailing love.” (Ps. 147:11) It is our fear (reverence) and trust that God desires. When He has those, then He will use our skills and strengths in ways far greater than we can imagine for His glory and His purposes.
