Last weekend I was blessed to attend our annual women’s event at church. One of the items in our gift bag is a 21-day devotional for women written by all of the pastors’ wives. Today I want to share one of the devotionals written by Jane Liston. It blessed me this morning – and I hope it blesses you as well.

God is love. And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them.” (1 John 4:16)

God loves us. We can’t even understand His kind of love. His love is the love. He is the definition of love. God is love. Whether you’re single, married, a single mother, widowed… His love for you is the same. Never failing, never ending, always faithful and true, always wanting the very best for you. “But whoever loves God is known by God.” (1 Cor. 8:3)

When you rise in the morning, He is there. Every day, He wakes you to another opportunity to live life here on this earth. You have another chance to be faithful in your praise toward Him. He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.” (Micah 6:8)

He stays with you on your drive to work, or while you’re preparing breakfast for the kids, or as you wring your hands in loneliness, sickness, or despair. You have another chance to be faithful in your service for Him. “God is not unjust; He will not forget your work and the love you have shown Him as you have helped His people and continue to help them.” (Hebrews 6:10)

He stays with you at the workplace, while changing diapers, playing Scrabble with the other residents, at doctor visits and hospital stays. You have another day to be faithful as you place your trust in Him. “See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know Him.” (1 John 3:1)

He’s still there. Whether you’re running errands, working late, shuttling the kids to activities, feeling alone and afraid, or facing an uncertain earthly future. You have another day to be faithful and make Him the Lord of your life. By day the Lord directs His love, at night His song is with me—a prayer to the God of my life.” (Psalm 42:8)

He remains. He is the only one who remains through every moment of every single repetitive and sometimes mundane day of your life. He wants your life to be better because He wants the best for His children. A better life is a life filled with praising Him, serving Him, trusting Him, and allowing Him His rightful place as the Lord of your life. He has a plan for your life that is beyond your dreams or understanding. Open your heart and your mind and allow Him to fill you up to overflowing with His goodness, His peace, His forgiveness, and His mercy. This is how God showed His love among us: He sent His one and only Son into the world that we might live through Him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.” (1 John 4:9-10)

Prayer: Heavenly Father, Your love is perfect. Thank You for loving me. Show me how to love You and honor You as You so rightly deserve. In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.
