Here it is my fourth day earnestly trying to be faithful to our Lord God in my body. Yesterday, I woke up sick. While I didn’t go for a walk before work, I did continue to take extra steps around the building and parking lot all day long and eat conciously. When I’ve been sick in the past, I would use it as an excuse to eat poorly and barely move. As I said in yesterday’s post, I have resisted thinking of my body as God’s temple – I believe for years the devil has had a foothold on me in my choices for my body. Even sick, I’m holding firm and leaning on God to get me through this short-term illness. We are called to give all that we are over to the Lord in faith – including our bodies. “In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps.” (Prov. 16:9)
I found an excerpt from “Body by God” by Ben Lerner that I want to share for encouragement. “Despite incredible pressure from the king, temptation from his own body, and the fact that every one around him was eating this way, Daniel chose to be faithful to the Lord and resolved not to defile his body with the royal food….. Daniel’s courage and obedience, which came through a love for God, brought him many blessings. God blessed Daniel with a knowledge, understanding of all kinds of literature, and learning that was ten times greater than that of anyone else in the whole kingdom. Later, God saved Daniel from the evil of men and the mouths of lions. He also gave Daniel the ability to see and interpret visions and dreams that eventually would change the course of history.”
Lord, give me the faith of Daniel so that I may rest on You for everything!
