“If I were your enemy, I’d devalue your strength and magnify your insecurities until they dominate how you see yourself, disabling and disarming you from fighting back, from being free, from being who God has created you to be. I’d work hard to ensure that you never realize what God has given you so you’ll doubt the power of God within you. He’s working overtime to keep your identity masked, to keep the truth from coming out — that you are indeed alive and free and empowered by God’s own Spirit to fight victoriously against him. Fervent prayer keeps your true identity in focus. [It] Reminds us of who we really are and taps into the power we really have in Christ.”
So who are you? “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God has prepared beforehand that we should walk in them” (Ephesians 2:10). Let’s examine the word ‘workmanship’. It comes from the Greek word ‘poiema’ and the word signifies a work of art brought forth by an artisan. Our English word poem and poetry stem from this word. We are God’s poetry in motion; a unique work of art produced by the Master Himself! Our lives are meant to reflect the beauty of God’s love.
According to this Scripture, you truly are a masterpiece! “I will praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; marvelous are your works, and my soul knows very well.” (Psalm 139:14). In the original Hebrew text, the word ‘fearfully’ means: with great reverence and heart-felt interest and respect. The word ‘wonderfully’ means: unique, set apart, uniquely marvelous. WOW! No wonder the psalmist bursts out with exuberant praise in this verse. He realized the great love and concern that went into his unique and very individual creation.
(Jeremiah 29:11) reveals a special truth. “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” The plans that God has for us were well thought out, meditated upon, devised specifically for us so that we would abound in them. Praise the Name of the Lord forever! Each of us has been given a unique and individual purpose that cannot fail if we will cast off fear and stop listening to the lies of failure, doom and gloom and all the negativity that the devil has been beating us up with. The plans and purposes of God are set in motion for a reason, to give us a future and a hope, so that we can be a blessing while we’re here on the Earth.
The devil is a liar, so shake off that feeling of dread and despair. Get back into fellowship with the Master and put on the garment of praise, because you are a person of divine destiny. You are specifically equipped and set apart having been Fearfully and Wonderfully Made!
So next time you look in the mirror, see yourself as God does, “fearfully and wonderfully made” –designed to “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.” (Matthew 22:37-39) Be the person God has called you to be. “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.” (Proverbs 4:23) But he also tells us “The heart is deceitful above all things” (Jeremiah 17:9a) In the Old Testament, the “heart” is more than the seat of emotion. It represents the basis of character, including the mind and the will. “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.” (Deuteronomy 31:6)
